Project Wingman - First Class Service for NHS Staff

Project Wingman - First Class Service for NHS Staff

On Thursday, 8th May 2020, our CEO, Guy Henderson, was delighted to present a hamper from our sponsors, Fortnum & Mason, alongside some tea to "Project Wingman" at Frimley Hospital.

"Project Wingman" is the brain child of two furloughed BA flight captains who recognised the synergies between doctors/nurses needing to talk through stressful situations post-shift (much like airline crew post flight), in a relaxing environment. They created the concept of the lounges which are now present in 30 hospitals nationally and are all staffed by furloughed airline staff.

Each aims to offer a “first class” type of experience, ie. comfortable space, premium tea/coffees, snacks, etc and an opportunity for staff to relax, download and have a different conversation…

As a finishing touch, Ascot Racecourse will also be delivering an “afternoon tea experience” to the Frimley lounge on future Thursdays for staff to enjoy. As a special treat, mocktails were added to the afternoon tea on the 21st May which were well received by NHS staff.

Tom Barnes said of the inaugural delivery:
"Today was a resounding success. The staff at Frimley were over the moon - we made this a surprise. The quality of the food you provided was sublime - seriously impressed. The frontline staff who needed it received their afternoon treat in abundance; we’d estimate around 50 clinicians and staff benefitted from your donation."

"On behalf of all at Frimley, Clinicians, Staff, Wingman Volunteers - thank you."
