Ascot/1711/Learning to Work Schools Bake Off Finals 2022


On Wednesday, 9th March, Ascot Racecourse were delighted to welcome finalists of the Ascot/1711/Learning to Work Inter-Schools “Bake-Off Competition” 2022 sponsored by Ascot Racecourse Supports. 

 Local schools were invited to take part in the competition which was run for two age groups – a Junior Competition for Year 5 pupils (age 9/10) and a Senior Competition Year 7/8 students (age 11-13).  The challenge was to create a “Tray Bake” themed to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee with the two winning bakes going on to appear on the retail menus at the racecourse from May 2022.

 Schools firstly held internal heats to select a team of three budding bakers to represent their school - in total, 1,400 students took part.

The teams had to showcase their creations alongside a presentation of their ideas and completion journey on a team mood board to Ascot’s panel of judges - Gemma Amor (Executive Chef), Jonathan Parker (MD 1711) and Eric Lanlard (French Pâtissier and celebrity chef).  The teams were then treated to a career talk, a tour of Ascot’s hospitality areas and an afternoon tea served by Ascot volunteers and enjoyed by students, accompanying parents and teachers.
