Ascot and the VRC

Ascot has a very strong relationship with the Victoria Racing Club (VRC), the racing administration behind Australia's premier racecourse, Flemington, the home of the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

As well as being partners through the Global Sprint Challenge, Ascot has in place an annual invitation to the winner of the Darley Australian Cup, Australia's top spring middle distance event, to run in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot. The VRC offer an AUS$500,000 bonus to any successful horse.
For the first time in 2008 the new "Choisir Trophy" was presented. This trophy commemorates the great Choisir, who won the King's Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee Stakes in 2003 for Australia, setting a pattern that would see two further Australian victoris at Royal Ascot this decade, for Takeover Target and Miss Andretti.
The trophy is presented by the VRC to Ascot, or visa versa, to mark any victory in any sprint race run at either venue when both the UK and Australia are represented. Kingsgate Native, for the UK, won the Golden Jubilee Stakes this year, a race in which Takeover Target represented Australia valiantly in fourth. Bill McKinnon, representing the VRC, presented the trophy to the Duke of Devonshire, representing Ascot.

Ascot and the VRC also have a membership exchange scheme in operation, to recognise the close ties and shared aspirations of these two great racing institutions.
