Cox Juvenile Is One To Follow

Fifth Race - John Guest EBF Maiden Stakes

Cox Juvenile Is One To FOllow

One To Follow made an auspicious winning debut when getting up by a neck to take the John Guest EBF Maiden Stakes and complete a 103/1 double for trainer Clive Cox.

That is the first double I have had at the same course, although I have had winners at two meetings on the same day, said Cox. I bought the horse privately from Derek Wellicome, an owner I used to ride for as a jockey, and he is a rig which is how he got his name. He is a nice horse and I was really pleased with that performance. He is related to Compton Admiral, who also won this maiden so lets hope he can go on and do the same.

Gerard Butler, trainer of third-placed King Joshua, who was denied second by a short-head, reported: Iam very pleased with that after he confused us first time at Newmarket. You have got to give him the benefit of the doubt and allow them one tricky day.

Frankie (Dettori) was happy with him and it is onwards and upwards. He will go for a maiden over seven furlongs in the next two or three weeks.

Mark Johnston saddled fourth home Record Breaker, an In The Wings half-brother to Irish Oaks winner Vintage Tipple, who took up the running approaching the distance. He ran well through the race and with a furlong to go I thought hed win but he just got tired and ran a bit green. It is a shame for the owners, who have come all the way from Hong Kong, but hes a nice horse and they are good owners. The plan is to go for another maiden.
