Third Race National Bank of Dubai Cup
Mick Heads For Ebor Then Melbourne
The George Margarson trained Young Mick, winner of the Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot last month, returned to the scene of his big triumph to capture the 75,000 National Bank Of Dubai Cup. The four-year-old was slashed to as low as 12/1 (with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Stan James) for next months totesport Ebor after his length and a quarter success and the York handicap is now firmly on the agenda.
He really likes it here, said Margarson. That is probably why he did no good last season Ascot was shut! He will go for the Ebor but might well run somewhere beforehand - he really needs his racing and I nearly declared him for tomorrow but thought it would be greedy.
This has been one of the longest breaks he has had and we have given him three hard gallops this week - he is really tough and the heat doesnt bother him. He is going to be entered in the Coxs Plate and the Melbourne Cup. The victory was a win on his comeback from a 28-day suspension for jockey Robert Winston.
The Luca Cumain-trained Glistening, ante-post favourite for the Ebor at York, remains on course for that race following his third-place finish, under a length and a half behind the winner Young Mick. Stable representative Guillermo Arizkorreta reported: We are happy with that run. He probably needs a bit further, and a faster pace would have suited. Hell go to the Ebor next.
Frankie Dettori picked up a two-day suspension for careless riding aboard Glistening. The rider will be out of action on Tuesday, August 8, and Wednesday, August 9, after causing interference to ninth-placed Crime Scene about a furlong out.
